SEM image of tarsal spines on the forelimbs of an ambush bug (Insecta: Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Phymatidae). The terminal segments of the forelimbs are adapted to enable the ambush bug to seize and hold its insect prey. This image was collected as part of a Bugscope (bugscope.beckman.uiuc.edu) session with Laurie Smaha's Fifth Grade Class in the Park Ridge Illinois School District.
